North Lake Tahoe - Summer Activities
Lake Tahoe is a great year round vacation site, with gorgeous natural areas for recreation, great lodging opportunities, and nightlife that can't be beat. Try any of these great summertime activites on or around the lake when on your next Lake Tahoe vacation.
- Golf
Lake Tahoe is surrounded by over 30 golf courses. In addition, there is a saying that at 6,000 feet a golf ball goes an additional 25 yards on the drive.
- Fishing
Fishing in Lake Tahoe is mostly for Mackinaw and Kokanee salmon. In addition to the lake it self, there are dozens of tributaries and rivers in the Lake Tahoe vacinity that offer up even more fishing potential.
- Water Skiing
The Lake has something for everyone, and as big as it is it can have everything. Take a waterskiing lesson and learn the intracacies of slalom or catch some air on a wakeboard. It is possible to rent a boat for yourself or hire a guide and boat to take care of the driving for you.
- Power Boating
Lake Tahoe offers tons of marina's where you can rent a powerboat for a day on the lake. Anything from pontoon boats to 29' cabin cruisers are available.
- Sailing
For a slightly quieter ride and a totally different feeling of being on the water, try sailing for a day. The Lake Tahoe area has many sailing schools and places to rent a sailboat for the more experienced sailing family.
- Hiking
Surrounding the Lake Tahoe Basin are hundreds of miles of trails ranging from easy to strenuous, that branch off into unspoiled wilderness area, monitored by the U.S. Forest Service. Popular short hikes include Eagle Falls/Eagle Lake, Emerald Bay/Vikingsholm, Glacier Meadow Loop, Loch Leven Lakes, Lower Lola Montez Lake, Marlette Lake, Rubicon Trail, Shirley Lake, Summit Lake, and Tunnel Creek Station. Heavenly and Squaw Valley USA round out the lineup.
- Biking
Biking in the great way to see the sights of Lake Tahoe and get some excercise with the family while doing it. There are many miles of paved bike paths, perfect for family's and riders less comfortable with road riding or mountain biking. For the more adventurous, a 72 mile road ride around the lake makes for a great long day on the bike. And for those looking for a great challenge, the Tahoe Rim Trail is a 165 mile adventure waiting for you. (thankfully you can ride sections at a time)
- Horseback Riding
Lake Tahoe offers all sorts of horseback riding trips. From pony rides for the kids to multi-day horsepacking trips into the Tahoe backcountry.
- Kayaking
